Quick answer: keep dried lotus leaf tea sealed, dry, cool, and protected from direct light and strong odors. If the material becomes damp, moldy, or develops an abnormal odor, discard it rather than trying to “fix” it by brewing.

Kew recognizes Nelumbo nucifera as sacred lotus. The Rike product linked below is dried lotus leaf, which is a different plant part from lotus seed, plumule, flower, or rhizome. Kew POWO: Nelumbo nucifera.

Dry storage is mostly a moisture-control problem. A decorative jar is less useful if steam keeps getting into it.

Use a clean, dry, sealed container

Illinois Extension recommends storing dried herbs in sealed containers in a cool location out of sunlight. That general dried-herb guidance fits lotus leaf as a pantry botanical. Illinois Extension: Preserving Herbs.

Avoid steam and wet utensils

Do not leave the bag open beside a boiling kettle or use a damp spoon. Drying works by reducing available moisture, and reintroducing moisture undermines the point of dry storage. Illinois Extension’s food-preservation guidance explains the role of drying in reducing water available for microbial growth. Illinois Extension: Drying Foods.

Do you need the refrigerator?

Not automatically. A consistently cool, dry cupboard is simpler than repeatedly opening a cold package into humid air, which can encourage condensation. Follow the package if it gives different instructions.
